Captain Morgan is one of the world's most recognizable rum brands, famously named after the 17th-century Welsh privateer Sir Henry Morgan. The brand was originally created by Seagram in 1944 when it began producing spiced rum in Jamaica. Over the decades, it evolved from a local Caribbean spirit into a global powerhouse known for its signature spiced flavor profile.
Today, the production of Captain Morgan is diverse. While much of the liquid destined for the United States market is produced at a large-scale distillery in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, other variations and regional releases are blended and bottled in locations such as the United Kingdom and Jamaica. The brand is currently owned by Diageo, a British multinational alcoholic beverages company, which acquired it as part of the Seagram brand dispersal in the early 2000s. Diageo manages Captain Morgan as a core global brand, distributing it to nearly every corner of the world.
