Ownership of the brand transitioned from the original German company to the Swedish forestry and hygiene giant SCA (Svenska Cellulosa Aktiebolaget) in 1995. In 2017, SCA spun off its hygiene and health operations into a new independent company named Essity. As of 2026, Essity continues to be the ultimate owner of Zewa, maintaining its position as one of the world's leading hygiene and health companies. While the brand has deep German roots and significant production facilities in Mannheim, it is manufactured in various locations across Europe to serve local markets.
