The brand Chef was originally created in Italy by the dairy giant Parmalat. For several decades, Parmalat has been a leader in the UHT cream and milk market. While the brand is deeply rooted in Italian culinary culture and the products are manufactured in Italian facilities, the ownership structure has transitioned over the years.

Since 2011, Parmalat has been part of the French multinational Lactalis Group. Following a successful takeover, Lactalis became the ultimate owner of Parmalat and its sub-brands, including Chef. This has made Chef part of the world's largest dairy products group, headquartered in France.
