Maple Syrup (Sciroppo d'acero)

Maple syrup is a distinctive sweetener derived from the sap of maple trees. Historically, it was first collected and processed by Indigenous peoples in northeastern North America. Today, Canada is the global leader in production, specifically the province of Quebec, which accounts for the vast majority of the world's supply. The manufacturing process involves boiling down the clear tree sap into a thick, concentrated syrup.

While various private labels and international brands bottle and distribute maple syrup, the industry is largely regulated by regional cooperatives in Quebec. In many cases, large multinational food corporations act as distributors or owners of specific retail brands, but the agricultural origin remains centered in the Canadian and northern United States forest regions.
