McVitie's Ginger Nuts is an iconic British biscuit known for its firm crunch and warm, fiery ginger flavour. The brand’s heritage dates back to 1830, when Robert McVitie opened a bakery in Edinburgh, Scotland. The Ginger Nut variety was introduced in the late 19th century and has since become one of the UK's most popular biscuits for dunking in tea.

Historically, McVitie's merged with Macfarlane, Lang & Co. in 1948 to form United Biscuits, which was the long-time owner of the brand. In 2014, United Biscuits was acquired by the Turkish food conglomerate Yıldız Holding. Since 2016, the brand has been managed under pladis, a global snacking company formed by Yıldız Holding to house its international brands.

Today, McVitie's Ginger Nuts are primarily manufactured in the United Kingdom, specifically at the historic factory in Carlisle, Cumbria. While the brand recently closed its final Scottish factory in Glasgow in 2022, effectively ending its manufacturing presence in its country of origin, it continues to be a staple of British culture under its international ownership.
