The Kobo Clara Colour is a specialized electronic device designed for digital reading, featuring a color E Ink screen and eco-friendly construction. The brand Kobo was originally established in Canada in 2009 by the digital bookstore Indigo Books & Music. It was created as a digital reading platform to compete with international device makers.
In 2012, the brand was acquired by the Japanese e-commerce and technology conglomerate Rakuten. Since then, Kobo has maintained its global headquarters in Toronto while being fully integrated into Rakuten's international ecosystem. While the design and engineering are driven from Canada and Japan, the manufacturing of the physical hardware, including the Clara Colour model, is primarily carried out in China.
