The brand was founded in 1984 in Dorset, England, by Mike and Lorraine Brehme, who started with just two chests of organic Assam tea. Clipper became the UK's first Fairtrade tea brand in 1994, establishing a long-standing reputation for ethical sourcing and plastic-free tea bags.

The brand is celebrated for its commitment to natural ingredients and sustainable practices. Although many of its raw ingredients like tea leaves and spices are sourced from specialized growers worldwide, the final products are blended and packed at their sustainable tea factory in Beaminster, Dorset. Today, Clipper is owned by the organic food group Ecotone, which manages the brand globally while maintaining its focus on biodiversity and carbon reduction.
