Font Vella Sacalm mineral water

Font Vella is an iconic Spanish brand of natural mineral water with a heritage dating back to the late 19th century. Its history began in 1898 in the town of Sant Hilari Sacalm, located in the Girona province of Catalonia, where Jaume Traveries first began distributing water from the spring to summer visitors. The spring was officially declared for public consumption in 1956.

The water labeled 'Sacalm' originates directly from the protected subsoils of the Guilleries Natural Area in Sant Hilari Sacalm. It is known for its weak mineralization and low sodium content, which has made it a popular choice for infant nutrition and specialized diets in Spain. While its primary and historical source is in Catalonia, the brand also bottles water from a second source in Sigüenza, Guadalajara.

Ownership of the brand has evolved significantly over the decades. Founded as an independent company, Font Vella S.A. was established in 1943. It entered the portfolio of BSN-Gervais Danone in 1974. Today, the brand is owned and managed by Aguas Danone S.A., a subsidiary of the French multinational food-products corporation Danone, which is headquartered in Paris, France.
