Dacia is the primary Romanian automobile manufacturer, established in 1966 with the assistance of Renault. Originally founded to provide modern, reliable, and affordable cars to the Romanian population, the brand's first major success was the Dacia 1300, a licensed version of the Renault 12. For decades, it remained a state-owned enterprise, defining the automotive landscape of Eastern Europe.

Following the fall of the communist regime, the French automaker Renault Group fully acquired Dacia in 1999, embarking on an ambitious plan to turn it into a global entry-level brand. This strategy led to the launch of the Logan in 2004, which revolutionized the low-cost car market. Today, Dacia is a key pillar of the Renault Group's global strategy, known for models like the Sandero and Duster, which consistently rank among the best-selling vehicles in Europe.

While its historic headquarters and largest manufacturing facility remain in Mioveni, Romania, the brand has expanded its production footprint. It now utilizes Renault-Nissan Alliance plants across the globe, including major facilities in Tangier and Casablanca, Morocco, as well as production sites in other emerging markets. As of 2025 and beyond, Dacia continues to operate as a central subsidiary of the Renault Group, focusing on sustainable mobility and robust, value-driven engineering.
