The brand's history began in 1957 when Lakhubhai Pathak, an Indian immigrant who arrived in London with very little money, started making traditional Indian snacks and sauces from his family kitchen to sell to the local community.

Over the decades, Patak's grew from a small family business into a major international food brand, popularizing Indian cuisine across the United Kingdom and eventually worldwide. The brand represents a fusion of traditional Indian recipes with modern food production standards, ensuring that authentic spicy flavors are accessible to home cooks everywhere.

In 2007, the brand was acquired by Associated British Foods (ABF), a multinational food processing and retail company. Under ABF's ownership, Patak's has continued to expand its product line and international reach while maintaining its heritage. The manufacturing is largely centered in the UK, particularly at its facility in Leigh, Greater Manchester, which is one of the largest curry sauce production plants in the world.
