Suunto Vertical smartwatch

Suunto is a prestigious Finnish brand renowned for its outdoor sports watches, dive computers, and precision instruments. Founded in 1936 by Tuomas Vohlonen, a Finnish orienteer who invented the liquid-filled field compass, the company has built its reputation on durability and accuracy in extreme environments.

While the brand maintains its Finnish heritage and continues to manufacture its high-end flagship models, such as the Suunto Vertical seen here, at its factory in Vantaa, Finland, it has undergone significant ownership changes. For many years, Suunto was part of Amer Sports. However, in 2022, Suunto was acquired by the Chinese technology company Liesheng (Guangdong Liesheng Electronic Technology), a manufacturer specialising in wearable electronics. This acquisition marked a shift in ultimate ownership to China, although the brand still preserves its design and engineering headquarters in Finland to maintain its 'Made in Finland' status for premium product lines.
