The brand was originally created by Kraft Foods as an Italian adaptation of their famous Kraft Singles.

Today, the brand is owned by Mondelēz International, following the 2012 spin-off of Kraft Foods Inc.'s North American grocery business. While Mondelēz is a global multinational based in the United States, Sottilette maintains a strong local presence in Italy, where it is produced in the Caravaggio plant and marketed by Mondelēz Italia S.r.l. The product is known for using a blend of cheeses like Emmental to achieve its signature taste and creamy texture.
