SEAT (Sociedad Española de Automóviles de Turismo) is Spain's premier automotive manufacturer, founded in 1950 by the Instituto Nacional de Industria. Initially established to revitalize the Spanish motor industry through a partnership with Fiat, the brand became a symbol of Spanish mobility during the mid-20th century.
In 1986, the Spanish government began selling the company to the Volkswagen Group, which became the sole shareholder in 1990. Today, SEAT is a key member of the Volkswagen Group's 'Brand Group Core.' While its primary manufacturing seat remains in Martorell, Spain—where the majority of its design and engineering takes place—the brand utilizes the global production network of its parent company to build models across Europe.
