K-salat is a household name in Denmark, deeply rooted in the Danish culinary tradition of 'smørrebrød' and cold lunches. Originally established in Havnegade, Copenhagen, the brand built its reputation on high-quality mayonnaise, remoulade, and a variety of deli-style salads such as potato salad and mackerel salad.

Over the decades, the brand relocated its production to Havnebyen on Sjællands Odde, which became its iconic home for over 80 years. In terms of ownership, K-salat has transitioned through several major food conglomerates. It was owned by Orkla for many years before being acquired by the Norwegian food group Rieber & Søn, which was later re-integrated into Orkla. In 2017, the brand was acquired by the Danish company Stryhns Gruppen, which is itself part of the Norwegian Agra group. Today, while the brand remains quintessentially Danish in identity, it is part of a larger Nordic food network.
