The Flora brand has a rich history, originally developed by Unilever in the 1960s as a healthier margarine option for the UK market. It has since evolved into a flagship name for plant-based fats.

In 2018, Unilever sold its spreads division to KKR, a global investment firm, which formed a new independent company called Upfield. Today, Upfield is the world’s leading producer of plant-based spreads. While the brand originated in the UK and Netherlands, production now occurs in multiple facilities across Europe (such as the UK and Poland) and North America to serve different regional markets.
