Milka is a world-renowned brand of chocolate confectionery, easily identified by its distinctive lilac packaging and the 'Milka Cow.' The brand was originally created in 1901 by Philippe Suchard in Switzerland. The name 'Milka' is a portmanteau derived from the German words Milch (milk) and Kakao (cocoa), highlighting the brand's core recipe of alpine milk chocolate.

While the brand has Swiss heritage and remains closely associated with the Alpine region, its production has expanded significantly across Europe. Today, Milka products are manufactured in multiple locations including Lörrach (Germany), Bludenz (Austria), and Svoboda (Ukraine) to meet global demand.

Ownership of the brand has transitioned several times throughout its history. In 1970, Suchard merged with Tobler to form Interfood, which was later acquired by Jacobs Coffee in 1982 to become Jacobs Suchard. In 1990, the conglomerate was acquired by Kraft Foods. Following the corporate split of Kraft Foods in 2012, the Milka brand became a flagship property of Mondelēz International, a global snack food powerhouse headquartered in Chicago, USA. Mondelēz continues to manage the brand's international distribution and marketing.
