Crockpot Slow Cooker

Crockpot is an iconic American brand that revolutionized home cooking by introducing the first slow cooker to the mass market. The concept traces its roots back to the late 1930s when Irving Naxon (born Irving Nachumsohn) developed the 'Naxon Beanery,' inspired by a traditional Jewish slow-cooked stew called cholent. In 1970, Naxon sold his business to Rival Manufacturing, which rebranded the device as the 'Crock-Pot' in 1971. Its success was immediate, as it catered to the growing number of women entering the workforce who sought a convenient way to prepare family meals.

Over the decades, the brand underwent several ownership changes through a series of corporate mergers. In 1999, Rival was acquired by the Holmes Group, which was subsequently purchased by Jarden Corporation in 2005. In 2016, a massive $16 billion merger between Newell Rubbermaid and Jarden resulted in the formation of Newell Brands, the current ultimate owner of the label.

While the brand maintains its headquarters and design operations in the United States, manufacturing has shifted globally. Most modern Crockpot appliances are produced in China to take advantage of large-scale electronics manufacturing hubs, though some components or specific models have historically seen production in Mexico. Despite these changes in manufacturing locations, the name remains synonymous with the slow-cooking category in North America.
