Moritz is a storied Spanish beer brand with deep roots in Barcelona, Catalonia. It was founded in 1856 by Louis Moritz Trautmann, an Alsace native who established one of the first industrial breweries in the city. The brand became a cultural icon in Barcelona, closely associated with the city's identity and its modernist heritage, particularly through its historic brewery building on Ronda de Sant Antoni.
After a period of closure in the late 20th century, the brand was successfully relaunched in 2004 by the descendants of the founding family. Today, it remains an independent entity owned by the Moritz family, distinguishing it from many other historic European beer brands that have been acquired by global beverage conglomerates. The beer is primarily brewed in Spain, maintaining its traditional connection to the Catalan market while expanding its presence internationally.
