Alfaguara Books

Alfaguara is a prestigious Spanish-language publishing house that has historical roots in Spain. Founded in 1964 by writer Camilo José Cela, it became a cornerstone of contemporary literature, famously establishing the Premio Alfaguara de Novela. Over the decades, it expanded its operations across Latin America, becoming a bridge for literary works between Spain and the Americas.

Today, Alfaguara is no longer an independent entity. Following a series of acquisitions in the publishing industry, it was integrated into Penguin Random House. Consequently, while the editorial decisions and literary heritage remain focused on the Spanish-speaking world, the ultimate corporate ownership lies with the German media giant Bertelsmann. Production and printing occur in various countries globally to serve local markets in Europe and the Americas.
