Balay is a historic Spanish home appliance brand founded in 1947 in Zaragoza by Esteban Bayona and José María Lairla. The name 'Balay' is an anagram of the first syllables of its founders' surnames. Originally starting with the manufacturing of voltage regulators and elevators, it quickly transitioned to domestic appliances like heaters and washing machines.

In 1989, the company was acquired by the German BSH Hausgeräte GmbH group, which integrated Balay into its global portfolio alongside brands such as Bosch and Siemens. Today, Balay remains a leading brand in the Spanish market with significant production facilities continuing to operate in various regions of Spain, including Zaragoza and Santander, while also utilizing BSH's global manufacturing network.
