Planters is an American snack brand that has become synonymous with peanuts and nut-based treats. Created in 1906, it gained worldwide recognition through its iconic mascot, Mr. Peanut. The manufacturing process primarily takes place in the United States, with major facilities located in Fort Smith, Arkansas, and Suffolk, Virginia. Ownership of the brand has transitioned between major food conglomerates over the decades. Originally founded by Amedeo Obici, it was acquired by Standard Brands, then Nabisco, and later Kraft Foods (which became Kraft Heinz). In 2021, Hormel Foods Corporation acquired the Planters brand, marking a significant strategic move to expand Hormel's portfolio into the snack nuts market. As of early 2024 and beyond, Hormel Foods remains the ultimate owner.
