Lajkonik is one of Poland's most storied snack brands, deeply rooted in the cultural history of Kraków. Its name and logo are inspired by the legendary figure of the Lajkonik, a hobby-horse rider who, according to folklore, commemorates the 13th-century victory of Kraków's citizens over Mongol invaders. The brand is synonymous with high-quality savory snacks, particularly its famous salted breadsticks (paluszki), which have been a staple in Polish households for decades.

The history of the modern brand traces back to the iconic Skawina factory near Kraków, where production began under state management before the transition to a market economy. Today, Lajkonik continues to manufacture its products primarily in its historic Skawina facility, maintaining local production standards while utilizing modern distribution networks as part of a global snacking giant.

Ownership of the brand has transitioned from local Polish hands to international control. Following the post-communist privatization era, the brand eventually became part of The Lorenz Bahlsen Snack-World, a leading European snack producer. Under this ownership, Lajkonik has expanded its portfolio to include crackers, pretzels, and various flavored snacks while remaining a cultural icon of Polish industrial food heritage.
