KangaROOS is an American-born brand that revolutionized the athletic footwear market in the late 1970s. Founded by Bob Gamm, an architect and avid runner, the brand's unique selling point was the inclusion of a small zippered pocket on the side of the shoe, designed to hold a key or loose change while running. This invention gave rise to the brand's name and iconic marsupial logo.

Today, the brand operates under a dual-ownership and manufacturing model. While global licensing is managed by various entities, the European division is particularly notable for its 'Made in Germany' lines, produced in its own factory in Münchweiler.
