Since 1988, Perugina has been a part of the Nestlé portfolio following the acquisition of the Buitoni-Perugina group. Today, while ownership is Swiss, the primary production heart of Perugina remains at the San Sisto plant in Perugia, Italy, which serves as a center of excellence for Nestlé's chocolate production.
