Bautz’ner Senf is one of the most iconic food brands from the former East Germany (GDR), specifically from the town of Bautzen in Saxony. Founded in 1953, the brand achieved cult status for its unique recipe that uses high-quality ingredients and a distinct grinding process. It is the market leader for mustard in Eastern Germany and holds a significant share across the entire country.

While the brand maintains its traditional production site in Bautzen to ensure regional authenticity, its corporate ownership transitioned over the years. In 1992, the family-owned Bavarian food company Develey Senf & Feinkost taken over the brand, helping it expand its distribution beyond regional borders. Today, while it remains a symbol of Saxon culinary heritage, it is part of the global portfolio of the Develey group.
