Costa Coffee is a quintessential British brand, originally founded in London in 1971 by Italian brothers Sergio and Bruno Costa. For several decades, the brand grew into a massive chain of coffeehouses before being acquired by Whitbread in 1995. In a major strategic move in early 2019, The Coca-Cola Company purchased Costa Limited for £3.9 billion, transitioning the brand into a global beverage powerhouse.

This specific instant coffee product, the Smooth Medium Roast, is part of Costa's retail range designed to bring the signature store taste into homes. While the coffee beans themselves are sourced globally from regions such as the Americas and Africa, the roasting and final production for the UK and European markets predominantly take place at Costa's state-of-the-art roasting facility in Basildon, Essex, England. This facility is one of the largest and most sustainable coffee roasteries in Europe.
