The 'Petit Poulain' line specifically refers to their smaller snack-sized bars or milk chocolate products often aimed at family consumption. For over a century, the brand has been a staple of French culinary heritage, known for its distinctive orange packaging and its association with breakfast and baking traditions.

While the brand was originally a family-owned French enterprise, its ownership has transitioned through several multinational corporations including Cadbury and Mondelez International. As of 2017, the brand returned to French-based oversight under the Carambar & Co group, which was formed after the investment firm Eurazeo acquired several confectionery brands. Manufacturing remains concentrated in France, primarily at the historic production site in Blois.
