Duvel is a world-renowned Belgian beer originally known for its distinctive refermentation process in the bottle. The brand's history dates back to 1871 when Jan-Léonard Moortgat and his wife Maria De Block founded the Moortgat brewery. The iconic Ale we know today was originally brewed to commemorate the end of World War I, under the name 'Victory Ale,' before being renamed 'Duvel' (meaning 'Devil' in Flemish) after a local shoemaker described the beer as a 'true devil.'

Today, Duvel remains a symbol of Belgian brewing expertise and is strictly produced at the brewery in Puurs-Sint-Amands, Belgium. The brand is the flagship label of the Duvel Moortgat Group, an independent family-owned brewery group that has expanded globally by acquiring several other craft breweries while maintaining its headquarters and primary production in its country of origin.
