The brand was founded in 1878 by Gerrit van Voornveld in Amsterdam, starting as a small steam-powered factory producing cough lozenges and liquorice. Today, the brand is part of the Cloetta Group, a leading Nordic confectionery company. While the brand remains deeply rooted in its Dutch heritage, its production and distribution are managed through Cloetta's extensive European network, with the primary manufacturing site located in Roosendaal, Netherlands. The brand continues to innovate while maintaining the traditional recipes that have made it a household name for over a century.
