Head is a prominent global brand synonymous with high-performance winter sports and tennis. Originally founded in the United States in 1950 by Howard Head, an aeronautical engineer, the company revolutionized the industry by introducing the first successful metal-laminate skis. This innovation made skiing significantly more accessible and paved the way for modern equipment design.

Today, Head's production is largely centered in Europe to maintain high craftsmanship standards. Most of its high-end alpine skis are manufactured in its facilities in Kennelbach, Austria, and Budweis, Czech Republic. The brand is now part of Head NV, a company headquartered in Amsterdam, Netherlands, but the operational core and management are heavily based in Kennelbach, Austria.

The brand has undergone several ownership changes, moving from its American roots to European ownership. It is currently owned by Head NV, which is controlled by the Eliasch Group. Under the leadership of Johan Eliasch, the brand has solidified its position as a leader in international competitive skiing, sponsoring numerous World Cup athletes and continuously innovating in materials science.
