Chimay Red (Rouge) Trappist Ale

Chimay Red, also known as Première, is an authentic Trappist ale brewed by monastics within the walls of Scourmont Abbey. The brand originated in 1862 when the Cistercian Trappist monks of Chimay began brewing to support their monastery and their charitable works in the surrounding community.

Today, the production remains strictly controlled by the monks at the Chimay Brewery located in Baileux, Belgium. To maintain the prestigious 'Authentic Trappist Product' logo, the beer must be brewed within the monastery grounds and the majority of profits must be dedicated to social work or the maintenance of the abbey. The brand remains entirely independent of global beer conglomerates, owned and overseen by the monastic community of Scourmont Abbey.
