Macsween Haggis

Macsween is a renowned family-run business that has become synonymous with the traditional Scottish dish, Haggis. Founded in Edinburgh in 1953 by Charlie and Jean Macsween, the company began as a butcher shop in Bruntsfield. Over decades, it transitioned from a local retail business into a major manufacturing specialist, credited with creating the world's first vegetarian haggis in 1984.

Today, the brand remains committed to its Scottish roots, operating out of a purpose-built production facility in Loanhead, Midlothian. While the brand has achieved international distribution and expanded its product line to include Moroccan-style haggis and various puddings, it maintains a strong focus on artisanal quality and geographical authenticity. All primary production occurs within Scotland to ensure the integrity of its traditional recipes.

The company is currently managed by the third generation of the Macsween family. Unlike many large-scale heritage brands that have been acquired by multinational conglomerates, Macsween remains an independent, family-owned entity. This independence allows the brand to maintain its focus on sustainability, environmental ethics, and traditional craft, which are central to its identity as a guardian of Scotland's national dish.
