The brand is known for its high-performance gear, including technical shells, sleeping bags, and tents, and was one of the first to utilize Gore-Tex fabric in its products. Today, the manufacturing is spread across multiple countries, including China, Vietnam, and other Southeast Asian nations, to maintain a global distribution network.

Ownership of Marmot has changed hands several times as the outdoor market consolidated. It was formerly under the K2 Sports umbrella and then Jarden Corporation. As of the current market structure heading into 2026, Marmot is a core brand within the Newell Brands portfolio.
