Jozo Salt

JOZO is a historic salt brand with roots dating back to 1929 in the Netherlands. The name is an acronym for 'Jodium Zout' (Iodized Salt), reflecting its original mission to combat iodine deficiency in the Dutch population. The brand was established by the Royal Dutch Salt Industries (KNZ) and has since become one of the most recognized salt brands in Western and Northern Europe.

While the brand originated in the Netherlands, its production today occurs in multiple locations. Vacuum salt is primarily produced in Hengelo (Netherlands) and Mariager (Denmark), while other varieties like sea salt are sourced from salt pans in the Mediterranean, the Caribbean (Bonaire), and the Himalayas. This diverse sourcing strategy allows the brand to offer a wide range of salt textures and minerals.

Originally part of the AkzoNobel group and later its specialty chemicals spinoff Nouryon, JOZO was acquired by the Salins Group (Groupe Salins) in 2021. This acquisition integrated the brand into one of Europe's leading salt production portfolios, managed from France, though the brand remains deeply tied to its Dutch heritage and the iconic 'salt house' symbol remains a core part of its identity.
