Founded in Melbourne, Australia, in 1987 by Dennis Paphitis, Aesop has grown from a single hair salon into a globally recognized luxury skincare brand. The brand is celebrated for its distinctive minimalist packaging, botanical-based formulations, and unique store designs that reflect local architecture.

Historically, Aesop was owned by Ecopia and then the Brazilian group Natura &Co. However, in 2023, the brand underwent a significant ownership change when it was acquired by the French beauty giant L'Oréal. Despite this change in corporate ownership, the brand maintains its headquarters in Australia and continues to manufacture the vast majority of its formulations there.

Today, Aesop operates as a premium subsidiary within L'Oréal’s Luxe division. It continues to expand its presence in international markets while staying true to its core philosophy of combining laboratory-made ingredients with plant-based extracts for high-quality personal care.
