The PH Academy lamp is a distinguished member of the PH family, designed by the iconic Danish designer Poul Henningsen. This specific three-shade pendant system, often referred to as a chandelier or 'Academy' model, was originally developed for the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. The design utilizes Henningsen's famous three-shade system, which was engineered in 1925-1926 to provide glare-free light by directing most of the light downwards.
Today, the brand is owned by Louis Poulsen, a world-leading lighting manufacturer founded in 1874. While many industrial products move production abroad, Louis Poulsen maintains a strong manufacturing presence in Denmark, ensuring the high craftsmanship standards associated with Danish Modern design. The brand has changed corporate hands several times in the 21st century and is currently part of the Design Holding group, a major Italian-based conglomerate specialized in high-end design brands.
