Aimovig is a prescription medication used for the preventive treatment of migraine in adults. It contains the active substance erenumab, which belongs to a group of medicines called monoclonal antibodies. It works by blocking the activity of the calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) molecule, which is linked to the development of migraine attacks.
The brand was co-developed through a strategic collaboration between the American biotechnology company Amgen and the Swiss pharmaceutical giant Novartis. While Amgen holds the rights to the product in the United States, Novartis manages the commercialization and distribution for the rest of the world, including Europe and Norway. Consequently, the product found in the Norwegian market is primarily manufactured and distributed by Novartis. The device shown is a pre-filled pen designed for self-administration by subcutaneous injection.
