Burger King, one of the world's most recognizable fast-food chains, was founded in 1953 in Jacksonville, Florida, originally named Insta-Burger King. Following some financial difficulties, it was purchased by David Edgerton and James McLamore in 1954, who renamed it Burger King and introduced its signature menu item, the Whopper.

Today, the brand operates as a global franchise system. While its global headquarters remain in Miami, Florida, its operations and supply chain are decentralized. Ingredients like patties, buns, and vegetables are sourced locally in specific regions through approved suppliers to ensure freshness and logistical efficiency. This means manufacturing and sourcing happen in nearly 100 countries including the USA, Canada, United Kingdom, and various nations across Europe and Asia.

Ownership of the brand has changed hands several times throughout history. Since 2014, Burger King has been the flagship brand of Restaurant Brands International (RBI). This parent company was formed through a merger with the Canadian coffee chain Tim Hortons and later expanded to include Popeyes and Firehouse Subs. Burger King continues to lead the global market through a mix of corporate-owned stores and thousands of independent franchisees.
