Perla is a storied Dutch coffee brand with roots dating back to 1895. Originally serving as a prominent independent coffee roaster, the brand was acquired by the Dutch supermarket giant Albert Heijn in the mid-20th century. Over the decades, it has evolved into Albert Heijn's signature private-label coffee brand, maintaining its own roasting facility in Zaandam, the Netherlands. This allows the brand to control the entire production process from bean selection to roasting and packaging.
Today, Perla is synonymous with the Dutch retail experience, offering a wide variety of blends including house blends, organic options, and espresso beans. While the raw coffee beans are sourced from across the global 'coffee belt'—including countries in Latin America, Africa, and Asia—the roasting and final production are localized in the Netherlands. The brand is strictly managed under the corporate umbrella of Ahold Delhaize, which ensures that sustainability standards, such as Rainforest Alliance certification, are integrated into the product line.
