Onitsuka Tiger is one of the oldest shoe companies in Japan, tracing its history back to the formation of Onitsuka Co., Ltd. in 1949 by Kihachiro Onitsuka. The brand was founded with the mission of promoting youth health through sport in post-war Japan. It gained international fame during the 1960s and 70s, notably through various iconic designs like the Mexico 66, which remains a cornerstone of their fashion line today.

In 1977, Onitsuka Tiger merged with GTO and JELENK to form ASICS Corporation. While the ASICS brand focuses primarily on high-performance athletic gear, Onitsuka Tiger was revived as a premium lifestyle and fashion brand that celebrates Japanese heritage and classic styles. Today, the brand is managed as a distinct heritage line under the ASICS umbrella, maintaining its status as a global icon in footwear. Manufacturing occurs across several countries including Indonesia, Vietnam, and Japan.
