Douwe Egberts is a historic coffee brand with a heritage dating back to 1753 when Egbert Douwes and his wife Akke Thijsses founded a small grocery store in Joure, Netherlands. Over centuries, the company evolved from a local grocery store into a globally recognized coffee and tea powerhouse, becoming synonymous with Dutch coffee culture.

Today, the manufacturing of their core roasted coffee products, including their popular beans and ground coffee, remains primarily centered in the Netherlands, specifically at their large production facility in Utrecht. This allows the brand to maintain strict quality control and stay true to its original roasting traditions.

In terms of ownership, Douwe Egberts has undergone significant corporate shifts in the 21st century. After being spun off from Sara Lee as D.E Master Blenders 1753, it eventually merged with the coffee division of Mondelez International. It is currently owned by JDE Peet’s, one of the world's largest pure-play coffee and tea companies. JDE Peet’s is headquartered in Amsterdam, Netherlands, and is majority-owned by JAB Holding Company, a global investment conglomerate.
