Marabou Schweizernöt chocolate bar

Marabou is one of Sweden's most iconic chocolate brands, founded in 1916 by the Norwegian chocolatier Johan Throne Holst, who also founded the Freia brand. The brand was launched in Sweden to meet local demand and has since become a staple of Scandinavian household treats, known for its smooth texture and signature recipes like the 'Schweizernöt' (Swiss nut) variety which features milk chocolate with chopped hazelnuts.

While the brand maintains its deep Swedish roots and primary production facility in Upplands Väsby, Sweden, its ownership has transitioned through major corporate mergers. In the 1990s, Marabou was acquired by Kraft Foods, and following a corporate spin-off in 2012, it is now owned by Mondelez International. Today, Marabou continues to be a market leader in the Nordic region, though it operates as a key part of an American-headquartered global snacking conglomerate.
