ALDI is a world-renowned German discount supermarket chain that traces its roots back to 1913. Originally a small grocery store in Essen, Germany, it was transformed after World War II by brothers Karl and Theo Albrecht into the massive enterprise known today. The brand is uniquely split into two separate legal entities: ALDI Nord and ALDI Süd, which operate in different territories both within Germany and internationally.

As a retailer, ALDI sources products from a vast network of suppliers across the globe. While many of its fresh goods and dairy products are sourced locally within the countries where it operates (such as the United States, United Kingdom, or Australia), its private-label non-perishables and hard goods are manufactured in multiple countries across Europe, Asia, and the Americas to maintain its competitive pricing model.

Ownership of ALDI remains private, held by the Albrecht family foundations. ALDI Nord is headquartered in Essen, while ALDI Süd is based in Mülheim. In the United States, ALDI Süd operates the ALDI storefronts, while ALDI Nord owns the specialty grocer Trader Joe's. Both entities continue to expand globally, maintaining a reputation for efficiency and high-quality private-label brands.
