Sottilette is an iconic Italian brand of processed cheese slices that has become a household name since its introduction in 1961. Originally created by Kraft to cater to the Italian market's demand for convenient, meltable cheese for sandwiches and 'toast', it is often considered the gold standard for processed cheese in Italy.
The brand's history is closely tied to the global corporate restructuring of Kraft Foods. Following various splits and mergers, Sottilette became part of Mondelēz International. However, in 2017, the Kraft Heinz Company sold its processed cheese business in certain regions (including Italy) to the Mondelēz group. Currently, the brand is owned by Mondelēz International, a global snack and food powerhouse headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. While the brand remains deeply rooted in Italian culinary culture, production occurs in modern facilities across Europe to meet international standards.
