United Colors of Benetton is a globally recognized Italian fashion brand, famous for its vibrant knitwear and socially provocative advertising campaigns. Founded in 1965 in Ponzano Veneto, Italy, by siblings Luciano, Giuliana, Gilberto, and Carlo Benetton, the company revolutionized the textile industry with its "dye-on-garment" technique, allowing for rapid response to color trends.

Historically, the brand was a leader in global apparel, reaching its peak in the late 1980s and 1990s. In recent years, under the leadership of the second generation of the Benetton family and current CEO Claudio Sforza, the brand has initiated a major restructuring phase to return to profitability by 2026. This includes streamlining its retail network and shifting a significant portion of its manufacturing closer to home. While production was once heavily concentrated in Asia (Vietnam, China, and Bangladesh), the company has strategically increased production in the Mediterranean basin—specifically in Croatia, Serbia, Turkey, Tunisia, and Egypt—to shorten lead times and gain better control over the supply chain.

Ownership remains strictly within the family through Edizione S.p.A., one of Europe’s largest industrial holding companies. Edizione manages a vast portfolio beyond fashion, including infrastructure and food services, ensuring the brand remains a central icon of Italian industrial heritage.
