Simmenthal Canned Beef

Simmenthal is one of Italy's most iconic food brands, specializing in premium canned beef in vegetable gelatin. The brand's history dates back to 1881 when Pietro Sada, a Milanese restaurateur, began experimenting with meat preservation techniques. His son, Gino Alfonso Sada, officially industrialised the process and founded the Simmenthal company in 1923, setting up production in Monza.

The name 'Simmenthal' is derived from the Simmental valley in Switzerland, famous for its high-quality cattle breed, which influenced the brand's visual identity and emblem. While the corporate history involved ownership by American giant Kraft Foods during the 1990s, the brand returned to Italian ownership in 2012.

Today, Simmenthal is a key part of the Bolton Group portfolio. The product continues to be manufactured in Italy, primarily at the Aprilia plant (Latina), maintaining its status as a household staple for salads and quick meals throughout the country.
