The brand was established in 1886 by the couple Henri Devos and Maria Lemmens in Antwerp. It began as a small business focused on preserving pickles and onions, eventually expanding into the iconic sauces that are now staples in Belgian households, particularly as accompaniments to fries and grilled meats.

Throughout its history, Devos Lemmens has remained deeply rooted in Belgian culinary culture. While it has undergone several ownership changes over the decades, the production has traditionally been maintained within Belgium to preserve its authentic flavor profiles. Since 2007, the brand has been under the ownership of Continental Foods, which was later acquired by the Spanish multinational CVC Capital Partners and subsequently by the Stone Canyon Industries group. As of 2019, Devos Lemmens is part of the GBFoods group, a major international food company headquartered in Spain. This ownership allows the brand to benefit from a global distribution network while maintaining its local Belgian heritage and manufacturing standards.
