Garmin is a global leader in GPS navigation and wearable technology, founded in 1989 by Gary Burrell and Min Kao in Lenexa, Kansas, United States. The company originally specialized in GPS units for aviation and marine sectors before expanding into automotive, outdoor, and fitness markets. Today, Garmin is best known for its high-performance smartwatches and fitness trackers.

While founded in the US, Garmin transitioned its corporate structure over the years. It was incorporated in the Cayman Islands in 2000 and later moved its legal domicile to Switzerland in 2010 to optimize its corporate tax and operative structure. Despite this Swiss legal headquarters, its operational headquarters remains in Olathe, Kansas.
