Zoloft antidepressant

Zoloft is a well-known antidepressant medication containing the active ingredient sertraline. It was originally developed and patented by the American pharmaceutical giant Pfizer. The brand was first approved for medical use in 1991 and has since become one of the most prescribed medications in its class worldwide.

Today, the brand ownership has shifted due to a major corporate spin-off. In 2020, Pfizer merged its Upjohn division (which handled off-patent legacy brands like Zoloft) with Mylan to form a new independent global healthcare company called Viatris. Consequently, Viatris is the current ultimate owner of the brand. Manufacturing occurs in various specialized pharmaceutical facilities across the globe, including locations in Europe, North America, and India, to meet international demand.
