HP Sauce (The Original)

HP Sauce is an iconic British brown sauce variety, first developed by Frederick Gibson Garton in Nottingham in 1895. The initials 'HP' stand for Houses of Parliament, after it was reported that the sauce was being served in the restaurant there. While it is deeply rooted in British culinary culture and features an illustration of Big Ben on the label, the actual production was moved from Birmingham, England, to Elst in the Netherlands in 2007.

Today, the brand is owned by the American multinational Kraft Heinz Company. Following the merger of Kraft Foods and Heinz in 2015, the brand has remained a staple in their international portfolio. Despite its foreign ownership and Dutch manufacturing, it remains the dominant brand of brown sauce in the United Kingdom and is widely exported globally.
